Magewell launches cloud management software

Magewell has announced the general availability of its Magewell Cloud multi-device management software. the new software can be flexibly deployed on an on-premises server or cloud hosting platform. It also provides centralized configuration and control of multiple Magewell IP streaming and conversion solutions. Two additional premium versions of Magewell Cloud also offer streaming management features. These include SRT relay and protocol conversion.

Magewell will showcase the new software in booth C8508 at NAB 2022, taking place April 24-27 in Las Vegas.

Magewell Cloud Features

According to a statement, the Magewell Cloud software allows integrators, administrators and IT staff to easily manage multiple Magewell IP encoders and decoders across multiple sites. This is possible thanks to an intuitive browser-based interface. Moreover, its rich feature set can also be programmatically controlled through HTTP-based APIs. Thus, it offers system integrators and third-party developers advanced deployment flexibility and integration possibilities. Beyond the efficiency and convenience of centralized management, Magewell Cloud is ideal for enabling technical staff to remotely manage devices on behalf of less experienced users.

The software supports all current Magewell streaming and IP conversion hardware. These include Ultra Stream live streaming and recording devices; Ultra Encode Universal Live Media Encoders; and Pro Convert encoders and decoders for linking traditional video signals to IP multimedia networks using NDI technology and other popular protocols. Users can thus remotely configure device settings, monitor device status, trigger operational functions, and perform batch firmware upgrades on multiple units of the same model.

Magewell Cloud core software is available for free to manage up to 20 Magewell hardware devices. The two additional versions of Magewell Cloud, supporting up to 50 or 150 devices, respectively, will be available for purchase as perpetual licenses. They also add SRT relay and protocol conversion functionality for the corresponding number of streams.

SRT Relay Features

The SRT relay feature simplifies one-to-many or many-to-many broadcasting with the SRT protocol. It does this by allowing Magewell and third-party SRT solutions to connect through the Magewell Cloud rather than directly to each other. Thus, it eliminates the need for public and static IP addresses at each endpoint. Bi-directional protocol conversion between SRT and RTMP also allows users to take advantage of the benefits of SRT in their streaming workflows while ensuring compatibility with non-SRT hardware and software.

“Our solutions are often used in large-scale production and distribution workflows that span multiple rooms or locations,” said James Liu, vice president of engineering at Magewell. “The Magewell Cloud software makes it easier for integrators and users to configure and manage our hardware in these deployments. [Meanwhile,] its flow management capabilities simplify the use of SRT technology in multi-site and multi-protocol workflows.

Magewell Cloud is delivered as a Docker container and can be deployed on the customer’s own private server or on public cloud infrastructure such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure. Magewell recommends Linux as the operating system for Magewell Cloud installations. However, it is also compatible with Windows and MacOS.

In addition, Magewell channel partners may also offer optional paid support services to help customers deploy software or manage their devices.
